Just like any other couple Vieneese, and Douglas Stanton had big plans for their wedding. In April, they knew that they would not be able to go ahead with the pans after being informed that Vieneese’s father was left with a few weeks to live. Her father, Preston Rolan, was diagnosed with acute leukemia.
Her father was initially so excited when she got engaged, and the couple wanted him to attend their wedding.
On November 16, the couple got married at the University of California, San Francisco Medical Center in the presence of their friends, family, and nurses. In a conversation with PEOPLE, Vieneese told how her father didn’t even know they were planning this, and it was a complete surprise to him. She even added that she was hiding from him in the hospital since he takes walks around the hospital in the morning.
When they took him for his walk, his daughter turned the corner on him, and he was completely surprised and was about to start crying. He went around telling all the nurses that ‘This is my daughter.’ “With the help of his nurses, we were able to have the wedding at the hospital so that he could walk me down the aisle. We wanted him to be able to share this experience with us.” Vieneese said.
Photos from the wedding ceremony show Vieneese sporting a wide smile as she walked with her father arm-in-arm down the hospital halls with the nurses and guests clapping on the sidelines. She also noted that the hospital staff was kind enough to provide the guests with food, decorated the hospital, and even got her father a suit.
Vieneese has been very close to her father, has ensured that she included her father in every important moment of her life, including her pregnancy news, which made him so excited. Rolan was held off from being put into hospice care so that he could attend his daughter’s wedding. Now that the ceremony is over, Vieneese says she is preparing to say goodbye to her father, who always gave her wisdom and helped her make the right decisions. Vieneese, through tears, even spoke about how much she would miss laughing with her dad.
