The 16-year-old son of dancehall entertainer Mavado has been charged with the murder of Lorenzo Thomas, a resident of Cassava Piece in St Andrew.
The artist’s son was on Friday also charged with conspiracy to murder, arson, shooting with intent and illegal possession of firearm and ammunition.
He remains in custody.
A statement from the police also revealed that another suspect remains in custody, but no further details were provided ahead of the further investigation.
The police are also awaiting the return of Mavado, whose real name is David Brooks, who left the island hours before the gruesome murder of Thomas on Tuesday, June 5.
Thomas was reportedly at home early in the morning when armed men kicked in the door to the house that he occupied, and shot and then chopped him to death. His body was then set ablaze by the hoodlums.
Mavado is being sought by the police for questioning in relation to an upsurge in violence in the community since he was shot at after he reportedly had a physical altercation with an influential member of the Cassava Piece community from where he hails, and has traditionally been seen as the most dominant figure there.
His attorneys have said the entertainer’s departure was to honor show dates overseas, and he is expected to return to the island shortly.
