A mother and her teenaged daughter have been charged for the death of 10-year-old Juvea Cooper in Portland Cottage, Clarendon last week.

The accused are 18-year-old Lanei Lewis of Portland Cottage, who has been charged for murder and attempting to pervert the course of justice, and Lewis’ mother, 40-year-old Glenda Wright, also of Portland Cottage, who has been charged with misprision of felony, which involves deliberate concealment of one’s knowledge of a crime.

The two are to appear in court on Tuesday.

Indications are that the deceased was throwing stones in the community and may have damaged a window at the home where Wright and her daughter live.

The child went missing for several days before his body was discovered in a shallow grave behind a house in the community on January 17. His throat had been slashed and one of his arms was severed and missing. Indications are that the arm is still to be located.

A knife with blood stains, which is believed to have been the murder weapon, along with the boy’s shoes, were found in a pit latrine.
