Quinoa Krispie Treats Will Become Your New Favorite Snack

Rice krispie treats are a snack time favorite! They are moist and semi-chewy, sticky and sweet. Also, they taste amazing and, you must admit, it’s pretty tough to eat just one!

For something a little different though, try a super healthy variation with these quinoa krispie treats.

This unique snack is similar to rice krispie treats, but the rice krispies have been replaced by puffed quinoa!

Sounds strange, but once you have a bite, you’ll fall in love!

What You’ll Need:

  • 3 tablespoons butter
  • 1 tablespoon coconut oil
  • 10 ounces marshmallows
  • 6 cups puffed quinoa
  • Sprinkles

What You’ll Do:

Measure out the six cups of puffed quinoa into a large mixing bowl. Cover a nine-inch-by-13-inch baking dish with a thin layer of butter.

Melt the three tablespoons of butter and coconut oil in a large pan at a low-medium heat. Add the marshmallows once the butter has melted, stirring constantly. Pour the newly melted mixture over the quinoa until completely coated.

Transfer the mixture to the buttered baking dish and press flat with a spatula. Layer the sprinkles on the top. 3

Let the krispies cool before trying to cut into about 15 squares.

Any puffed quinoa treats not eaten the same day should be stored inside a closed Ziploc bag as they can get stale pretty quickly if left out. Certainly they will be a harder version of their former selves if left overnight on the counter!

Puffed quinoa is not that hard to find and can be bought online or from health food stores. It is generally puffier than if you try to puff uncooked quinoa yourself at home. 5

Why would you go through the extra step anyway if you can buy quinoa puffed to perfection from a commercial outlet?

These are great treats eaten any time of day and as a portable snack as well!
