Charles Manson was reportedly too weak to undergo surgery for intestinal bleeding and was sent back to his prison cell.

Sources told TMZ that Manson, 82, was transferred from Corcoran State Prison in Bakersfield, California, to a hospital because a lesion in his intestines was causing significant bleeding. Doctors wanted to perform surgery on the Manson Family cult leader after he arrived at the hospital, but he refused.

Two days later, Manson changed his mind and agreed to the surgery. However, doctors determined during pre-op that although he needs surgery, it would be life-threatening because of his weak condition.

Two days after that, Manson regained his strength and was set to undergo the surgery.

Due to state and privacy laws, Terry Thornton, a spokeswoman with the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation, would not confirm if Manson was hospitalized, but she did tell the New York Daily News that the convicted murderer was back in his prison cell.

“Inmate Manson is at California State Prison-Corcoran,” Thornton said, without providing any details on his reportedly severe medical condition.

It is unknown whether Mason had the surgery.

Manson is serving nine life sentences for leading an apocalyptic cult and conspiring in seven murders in the summer of 1969. The most famous person the Manson Family killed was actress Sharon Tate, the then-wife of film director Roman Polanski. Tate was nearly nine months pregnant when she was murdered.

Manson has been denied parole 12 times, and his next parole hearing is set for 2027 when he is 92-years-old.
