Detectives attached to the Narcotics Division arrested a resident of Toronto, Canada for breaches of the Dangerous Drugs Act (DDA) at the Norman Manley International Airport (NMIA) on Wednesday.
During security checks, a dog from the Police Canine Division drew attention to a suitcase belonging to the passenger, which, when searched, allegedly resulted in the detection of the contraband.
Personnel from the Narcotics Division were contacted and an investigation was launched, resulting in a total of 14 packages of cocaine weighing approximately 5.5 kilograms being found in a false compartment of the suitcase.
The drug has an estimated value of Ja$6.6 million.
The passenger was subsequently arrested.
His identity has been withheld pending further investigations by the police.
