Not only the bed sheets should be changed and smell fresh, but the mattress too.

We are going to give you cleaning and maintenance tips to ensure your sleeping area is as much soothing as it can be.

The average person sweats out about half a pint of perspiration each and every night. Also, people spend third of their life lying horizontally on a mattress. Maybe you have thought about cleaning your mattress, but after removing the sheets, the cover of the mattress cannot be removed that easily like it would have been with a zipper.

Although it is hard to admit it, mattresses hover spills, dirt, dust, stains, dust mites and even worse. So, maintaining clean your mattress is important for several reasons, not the least of which is the fact that your body lies on top of it with only a sheet separating you from your mattress.

But, don’t worry because we are going to give you a few tips and trick which will make cleaning and care for your mattress a breeze.

LET’S START WITH SOME MAINTENANCE TIPS:

  • Vacuum your mattress

This is important because it will remove dust, dead skin cells and other debris that lies on your mattress. Consider doing this every time you rotate your mattress or once a season.

  • Deodorize your mattress

With all that sweat, dust and other fun stuff your mattress handles, it can start to develop its own unique aroma. And, to combat this, simply sift baking soda over your mattress, leave it for about 30 minutes and then vacuum it up. Baking soda is a natural deodorizer, so it will help you deodorize any odors. Also, you can add five drops of essential oil into the baking soda pre-sift and you will enjoy a nice scent for a few nights thereafter.

  • Spot cleaning and strains

Usually, only one type of stains ends up on your mattress, which is protein stains (blood, sweat, vomit, urine…).

Take a wet cloth and then use a pressing motion rather than a circular motion to remove the stain. Use only cold water when cleaning stains on your mattress. Fresh protein stains can usually be removed with a mixture of salt, baking soda and water. So, just create a paste with equal parts of these ingredients and rub it on the area and brush it off 30 minutes later. Then, use some cold water on a cloth to remove the excess and then allow the mattress to dry.

  • Steam cleaning or deep cleaning

Steam cleaning is just covering the mattress with steam to kill dust mites, while deep cleaning is extracting the moisture. If you choose any of these two, it is better to contact a professional than doing that on your own. These folks are trained and have access to great extraction equipment.

OTHER TIPS AND TRICKS:

  • Turn and/or flip your mattress

Do this at the turn of every season.

  • No water on your mattresses

Mattresses don’t like liquids at all because they get trapped in it and has nowhere to go.

  • Use fans to dry the mattress

Don’t think about sleeping on mattresses until they are completely dry.

HOW TO DEAL WITH BED BUGS?

This should not be a DIY project. Act fast and contact a professional if you think you have them.

Here is one tip to save your mattress from spills, stains, etc:

Mattress protector is one of the best investments for your mattress. It is not a secret and also it is recommended to have it in order stains and other debris won’t end on your mattress.
